Q: |
How many families/children are in your group and what ages are included? |
A: |
The Shine Homeschool Support Group comprises approximately 35 families and 100 children across a range of ages. We provide co-op classes for students aged 4 to 18. Enrollment requires families to have at least one child who is 5 years old or will reach that age by September 1st of the current academic year. Classes are typically sized between 5 and 16 students and are organized into the following age divisions: 4-6, 7-10, 11-13, and 14-18.

Q: |
What is the parent commitment or involvement in SHINE? |
A: |
The Shine community is a collaborative group of homeschool families dedicated to fostering a supportive environment. We are not a school or drop-off co-op, but rather a resource designed to enhance your existing homeschool curriculum. Meeting on Wednesdays, Shine offers both enrichment and academic classes. As a support group, we rely on the active participation of families to cultivate a positive learning experience. While parental involvement is encouraged, teaching is not mandatory. To ensure the smooth functioning of our co-op, each family contributes a required number of volunteer hours based on their attendance. These opportunities include assisting with or leading classes, organizing social events, and helping with setup and cleanup on co-op days. Shine's purpose is to complement your home education and should not be considered a replacement for your homeschooling at home.

Q: |
What are the memership requirements of Shine? |
A: |
Since Shine is a Christian homeschool support group, we require all prospective members to agree with and sign our Statement of Faith for membership approval. While our members have diverse backgrounds, a shared belief in Jesus as Lord and Savior unites us. Complete membership requirements are outlined on page 3 of the Shine Policy Handbook and Annual Forms, available on our website, and must be met for approval.

Q: |
Does Shine accept Epic, governement school funds, or vouchers? |
A: |
Shine is a parent-funded homeschool support group providing co-op classes. We operate solely on parent contributions and do not accept government funding, public school funds, or vouchers. |
Q: |
Will Shine meet all my education needs for my child(ren)? Does Shine issue grades or academic transcripts? Is Shine an accrediated school? |
A: |
Shine Homeschool Support Group offers encouragement, support, co-op classes, and enrichment opportunities for homeschooling families. However, it's important to understand that Shine does not fulfill all educational requirements, award academic credit, or maintain academic records, as the primary responsibility for a child's education lies with their parents. Individual homeschooling families maintain full autonomy over their curriculum, record-keeping, school calendar, and educational approach, deciding what best suits their children's needs. While Shine provides support, encouragement, and mentorship, ultimate educational decisions rest with the parents. Shine is not an accredited school. Accreditation is only given to schools and similar organizations. Generally, this is not a concern for homeschoolers, as most colleges and employers readily accept them. Accreditation might become relevant if a student returns to public school, potentially requiring diagnostic testing for proper placement.
