Q: |

A: |
Shine meets at Fairview Baptist Church on Wednesdays for our co-op classes. We meet for 24 co-op classes during the school year. We also have field trips and other social activities throughout the year at other locations. |
Q: |
How many families/children are in your group and what ages are included? |
A: |
Our Shine Homeschool Support Group is composed of roughly 35 families and 100 children of varying ages. We offer co-op classes for children aged 4-18. To participate, families must have at least one child who is 5 years old, or will turn 5 by September 1st of the current school year. Class sizes typically range from 5-16 students, and are divided into three age groups: 4-6, 7-10, 11-13, and 14-18.

Q: |
What is the parent commitment or involvement in SHINE? |
A: |
Our Shine community works together to make our group a wonderful community of homeschool families! We are not a school or a drop-off co-op. Shine is designed to enrich your homeschooling not replace your homeschooling at home. Shine is a homeschooling community that meets on Wednesdays and offers both enrichment and academic classes for your children. It functions as a support group for families by working together to create a positive learning environment. Parents are encouraged to participate, but teaching is not required. Because it is a support group, each parent is required to volunteer a number of hours based on the family's attendance. These volunteer opportunities include teaching or assisting in classes, planning social activities, and helping with set up and clean up on co-op days. Shine is designed to supplement your homeschooling curriculum and is neither a school nor a drop-off co-op.

Q: |
What are the memership requirements of Shine? |
A: |
Shine is a Christian homeschool support group that requires all members to agree with and sign our Statement of Faith before their membership can be approved. Our members come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, but we all share a common belief in Jesus as Lord and Savior. To be approved, each family must meet all membership requirements, which are detailed on page 3 of the Shine Policy Handbook and Annual Forms found on our website.

Q: |
Does Shine accept Epic or other school funds, or vouchers? Does Shine participate in Education Savings Funds (ESA?) |
A: |
Shine is a homeschool support group that offers co-op classes and is funded exclusively by parents. We do not accept any government funds, public-school funds, vouchers, or participate in Education Saving Accounts (ESA.) |
Q: |
Will Shine meet all my education needs for my child(ren)? Does Shine issue grades or academic transcripts? Is Shine an accrediated school? |
A: |
Shine is a support group for homeschooling families that provides encouragement, support, and academic and enrichment classes. However, it does not meet all educational needs of children as the responsibility for their education rests with their parents. Shine does not award academic credit, keep academic records, or fulfill academic requirements. Individual homeschooling families govern themselves regarding curriculum, record keeping, school calendar, and education method. Shine offers support, encouragement, and homeschool mentoring, but families decide what is best for their children. Shine is not an accredited school, which is typically not an issue for homeschoolers as most colleges and employers welcome them. Accreditation may be required if a homeschooler re-enrolls in public school, and some may require diagnostic tests for placement.
